West Hartford Police have a warrant for the arrest of an armed robbery suspect on various charges, but when serving the warrant the suspect was also found in possession of a firearm and narcotics, and now faces those charges as well.

Capt. Daniel Moffo said Tuesday that they had obtained a warrant related to investigation of an incident that took place on April 15, 2023. Police were notified at 3:53 p.m. that that day about an armed robbery that had occurred several hours earlier on St. James Street.

According to police, the victim met with several people that day, including one individual who was known to the victim. Police said the victim reported that during that meeting they were “threatened with a firearm, punched in the face, and forced to transfer money through CashApp.”

The victim, who sustained minor injuries resulting from the assault but refused medical attention, told police that they were threatened and told not to report the incident.

West Hartford Police Department’s Detective Division obtained an arrest warrant following their investigation of the incident, and on Tuesday the department’s Community Support Unit and Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force were set to serve that warrant on the suspect, who had been located at a commercial plaza on Broad Street in Windsor. While the suspect, who has been identified as Devon Sutton, 21, of Windsor, was being taken into custody pursuant to the warrant, he was also found to be in possession of a firearm and narcotics.

Sutton faces charges of weapons in a motor vehicle, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of a controlled substance (second offense), and possession with intent to sell. Based on those charges, he is being held on $250,000 surety bond while awaiting arraignment.

Police said that if Sutton posts bond on Tuesday’s charges, he will then be served with the robbery-related warrant, for which no bond has been set at this time. The warrant’s charges include first-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny, first-degree threatening, and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny, and third-degree assault.

Moffo said that Sutton was also wanted on an active arrest warrant for third-degree assault from another agency in Connecticut.
