West Hartford Police received several calls late Friday afternoon reporting the sound of gunfire near the intersection of Westgate Street and New Britain Avenue, and although detectives are continuing to investigate they have not been able to find physical evidence that shots were fired.

According to Lt. Eric Rocheleau, a large number of police officers responded to the area where residents  reported shots had been heard at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2.

Rocheleau said that several residents of a house at 1195 New Britain Ave. told police that they had been in the driveway and ran inside when they heard shots.

Detectives checked the property and surrounding area but have not yet found evidence of shots hitting anything, Rocheleau said. There were no injuries reported.

Police also spoke with neighbors, who reported seeing a dark colored truck or SUV in the area around the time of the reported shots.

That same 1195 New Britain Ave. residence was the focus of an hours-long standoff in March that resulted in three teens being taken into custody.

In September, two adults and five juveniles were arrested after stolen property from at least 20 car burglaries was recovered at the 1195 New Britain Ave. residence. While awaiting a warrant in that case, police had the property under surveillance and also witnessed a drug transaction and apprehended and charged a suspect.
