Suspects armed with a sledgehammer smashed their way into the Lux Bond & Green jewelry store at 46 LaSalle Road in the predawn hours of Sunday morning, damaging the front door and a merchandise case.
According to West Hartford Police Capt. Aaron Vafiades, police responded at approximately 3:25 a.m. due to activation of a burglary alarm and observed that the front door and an interior door had been smashed.
Store Manager Annie Kovath told We-Ha.com that the two individuals who burglarized the store, whose images were captured on surveillance cameras, were wearing masks.

At least one of the suspects entered the business and damaged a display case, Vafiades said.
The burglars fled in a white Hyundai with “multiple jewelry items,” police said.
The value of the merchandise was not provided, but Kovath and West Hartford Police believe that the majority of the financial loss was due to the damage to the door and case rather than the value of what was stolen.
“We’re just grateful that everyone is safe and no one got hurt,” Kovath said. “We thank the WHPD for their quick response to the scene.”
According to Kovath, the Lux Bond & Green store will remain closed on Monday, Feb. 17 while they conduct an inventory, and will reopen on Tuesday.
Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information should contact West Hartford Police at 860-523-5203 or via the anonymous tip line 860-570-8969 or email [email protected].
