West Hartford Police Seize Guns, Cash, Fentanyl and Other Drugs During Enforcement Operation

West Hartford Police conducted an enforcement effort on Tuesday, targeting street level offenses and warrant services.

The West Hartford Police Department’s Patrol Division and Community Support Unit (CSU) conducted an enforcement operation targeting street level offenses and warrant services on Tuesday, Jan. 6, arresting multiple people for a range of offenses and seizing weapons, fentanyl and other drugs, as well as thousands of dollars in suspected narcotics proceeds.
There were a total of 41 motor vehicle stops during the enforcement operation, resulting in four felony arrests and three misdemeanor arrests, Capt. Aaron Vafiades said. A male party wanted on a violent domestic assault warrant was arrested, two failure to appear warrants were served, and three adult males were arrested for the sale of narcotics.
Included among those arrested was Savyvon Brown, 25, of Bloomfield, who was the operator of a vehicle stopped by Ofc. Bobrowiecki and Ofc. Gagliardi of the Patrol Division in the area of 456 New Park Avenue. The motor vehicle stop was made at 10:36 p.m., Vafiades said.
Police said during the stop of the vehicle being driven by Brown, officers located and seized a Glock 17 Gen 5 handgun equipped with a “Glock switch,” a Smith & Wesson M&P .380 Shield, and an extended magazine containing 32 rounds. They also found approximately 146.85 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle.
Brown has been charged with a slew of offenses, including possession of a high capacity magazine, two counts of illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, illegal possession of an assault weapon, two counts of carrying a pistol without a permit, possession with intent to sell, possession of more than 5 ounces of cannabis, use of drug paraphernalia, tinted windows, and having a substantially obscured number plate.
Brown remains in custody, with bond initially set at $500,000, and according to online records is due back in court on Feb. 25.
Including the items seized from Brown, Vafiades said the total evidence seized during the operation included:
- Over $12,000 in suspected narcotics sales proceeds
- 250 bags fentanyl
- 39.5g “crack cocaine”
- 39.2g powder cocaine
- 11 Oxycodone pills,
- 16 ecstasy pills
- 3.5g PCP
- 2 illegal firearms, one fitted with an auto “switch” and extended magazine
