The West Hartford Public Library will collect donations of toiletries and hygiene products between Jan. 12 and Feb. 6, 2026, as part of our annual Kindness Project, now in its ninth year. This initiative is inspired by the book Wonder by R. J. Palacio and its message of compassion and kindness towards others.
Over a four-week period, we collect donations at all library locations to benefit the West Hartford Food Pantry and Fern Street Universalist Church Backpack Program, at which point they are distributed to community members in need.
The following items are most appreciated:
- Tissues
- Bar Soap (regular size)
- Body Wash
- Deodorant
- Diapers (larger sizes 4-7)
- Dish Soap
- Disinfectant Wipes
- Feminine Hygiene supplies
- Laundry Detergent
- Toilet Paper
- Toothpaste (full size)
- Toothbrushes
- Dental Floss
- Liquid Hand Soap
- Paper Towels
All donated items must be new and unopened. Donations can be dropped into specially marked boxes at any West Hartford Public Library location:
- Noah Webster Library, 20 South Main St.
- Bishops Corner Library, 15 Starkel Rd.
- Faxon Library, 1073 New Britain Ave.
