The Town of West Hartford earns high rankings in many national polls, and the latest top ranking is as one of the safest places to raise a child.
Safewise, a website that uses a comparison engine to help consumers choose the appropriate home security system, compiled a list of the top 30 places in the country (with 10,000 or more residents) to raise children in America, using information that according to the website included “violent crime data from the most recent FBI Crime Report, along with sex offender populations, state graduation rates, and school rankings.”
Unique and kid-friendly programming for children were also considered.
West Hartford’s tree-lined streets, large historic homes, and quaint neighborhoods were noted by Safewise, as was the town’s low crime rate. The West Hartford Police Department’s community policing programs which bring high police visibility to neighborhoods was noted as a factor in maintaining the low crime rate.
The write-up also noted the town’s “Behind the Badge” citizen’s police academy as a factor in strengthening the bond between the police and residents.
Other Connecticut towns to make the list were Greenwich (ranked no. 3 overall), Fairfield (no. 12), Milford (no. 28), and Wallingford (no. 29). Carmel, IN, was ranked no. 1.
