Road construction season has begun, and a number of West Hartford streets are scheduled for complete reconstruction –  including replacement of concrete driveway aprons, repair/replacement of curbing, and repair of damaged concrete sidewalks.

According to Town Engineer Duane Martin, work has already begun on the reconstruction of Farmington Avenue, from just east of Quaker Lane to just west of Whiting Lane. That work is scheduled to be completed by July 1, 2015.

Other road reconstruction projects underway or scheduled for this spring/summer include:

  • King Philip Drive (Mohawk Drive to Albany Avenue) – Work has started with completion planned by July 30, 2015
  • Farnham Road – Work scheduled to start in June, with completion by July 30, 2015
  • Dorset Road – Work scheduled to start in June, with completion by July 30, 2015

In addition, many West Hartford streets are scheduled for repaving, which includes milling but not a complete reconstruction. Repaving is done in several rounds, and the first round will begin on Monday, May 11 and last through the end of May, Martin said. Two additional rounds of repaving will be scheduled later in the season and the Town of West Hartford will advise which streets are on that list closer to the start date.

According to Martin, the following roads will be repaved in the first round:

  • Regency Drive
  • Story Drive
  • Fowler Drive
  • Eustace Drive
  • Stamford Drive
  • West Normandy Drive
  • Gallaudet Drive
  • Rockwell Place
  • Whitehill Drive
  • Rye Ridge Parkway
  • Magnolia Hill
  • Dogwood Lane
  • Crabapple Road
  • Forest Road
  • Plymouth Road
  • South Highland Street

Are there any plans to pave the roads in the Elmwood section of WH? the roads are pretty bad especially Grove St, Elmfield, st and Somerset st. Putting up orange cones for a temporary fix is ok but they really need to be paved over. Grove street is a real mess.
