The music bus is on the loose!” said David Thomas, instrumental music teacher at Duffy Elementary School.

Wolcott and Duffy Elementary Schools have teamed up to provide transportation for before school music rehearsals for over 20 students in need of transportation to attend music rehearsals. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings, fourth and fifth grade students who attend either Wolcott or Duffy Elementary Schools are picked up and delivered for band, choir, or orchestra rehearsals.

This program was made possible through grant funds awarded by CREC (Capitol Region Education Council) for Wolcott’s  “Welcoming Schools” initiative, intended to strengthen family-school partnerships. Town and Country Transportation of New Britain has been contracted to transport the young musicians.

This is a sweet victory where a path has been cleared for Duffy and Wolcott students to gain access to deepen their music education, which should be an integral part of every child’s world of possibility.
