The Senior Center in Bishops Corner recently donated eight boxes of gently used books, new hand-knitted scarves and hats, and toiletries to Connecticut Alliance for Victims of Violence and Their Families Inc. (CT-ALIVE) of West Hartford, CT.

“The Center had an abundance of donated books in its closets and the time came to share the excess with others” said Senior Center Director Gina Marino. “We were aware of the great work of CT-ALIVE to help women who have been abused heal, grow and move forward.” The Senior Center’s Knitting Group and Senior Center members and guests generously donated the knitted items and toiletries.

Susan Omilian, founder and project director, was excited to distribute some of the Senior Center’s donations at a recent CT-ALIVE retreat. She plans to distribute more knitted items and toiletries at their upcoming fall/winter events. The donated books will be sold at an upcoming CT-ALIVE clothing and book drive.

For additional information about CT-ALIVE, please visit their website: www.ct-alive.org.

The Senior Center is pleased to be able to support community partners in need. “We will continue identifying organizations in the area that we can help,” said Marino. The Center offers a variety of recreational activities, social services and preventative health services to the Town’s Senior Citizens. There are hundreds of activities for seniors to choose from, including classes in wellness, sports and fitness, the arts, and personal development. Throughout the year there are lectures, presentations, and numerous special events and trips. We also regularly offer healthy blood pressure clinics, blood sugar screenings, and much more.
