For the second year in a row, the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra has presented summer scholarships to its members for advanced musical studies.
The purpose behind each of the $500 scholarships is for the orchestra member to advance his or her musical knowledge and performance by studying with professionals whom they might not be able to study with during the course of the regular orchestra season or academic year.
This year’s recipients are principal flutist Tracy Norkun, a resident of Forestville, and double bassist Nicholas Giamalis, a resident of Glastonbury.
Tracy has been with the WHSO since its founding in 2002.
Nicholas, a rising senior at Kingswood Oxford School, has been with the WHSO for the past three years.
The scholarship fund is available due to the generosity of our patrons who have contributed to it at the scholarship table that we have set up at each of our concerts.
