The West Hartford Town Council was set to authorize Town Manager Ron Van Winkle to enter into a Purchase and Sale Agreement for UConn’s West Hartford campus, but has tabled the resolution until its June 28 meeting.
Assistant Corporation Counsel Kimberly Boneham said that there are a lot of details to go over and clarify, especially with respect to language concerning the disposal of the 58-acre property before the final $4 million is due.
Van Winkle told the Town Council Tuesday night that lawyers for West Hartford are still going back and forth trying to finalize the language. “There’s not a conflict,” he said, but they are just working out the conditions.
Van Winkle said he expects the resolution to be on the Town Council Agenda for the June 28 meeting.
If the resolution is approved by the Town Council on June 28, the sum of $250,000 will be appropriated from the Town’s fund balance as a deposit for the purchase of the West Hartford campus. Following a 90-day due diligence period, another $750,000 will need to be paid to UConn.
Discussions on what to do with the property after purchase will take place at a later date. A schedule of discussions and forums with the community has not yet been set.
