As Ballet Theatre Company (BTC) looks forward to its 25th anniversary season, they are thrilled to welcome new and returning advanced students to audition for the pre-professional Junior Corps de Ballet program. The company, which has prided itself on providing high-quality arts experiences to Greater Hartford since its inception in 1999, has steadily grown in recent years, offering the opportunity for local professionals to flourish, and for aspiring students to learn the ropes of a professional rehearsal environment.

A rigorous program intended for advanced dancers, BTC’s Junior Corps de Ballet is led by Artistic Director Stephanie Dattellas and Rehearsal Director Emily Silva, and provides numerous performance opportunities alongside BTC’s resident professional company. This elite group is by-audition only, and accepted members attend Junior Corps de Ballet class in addition to their training regimen at The School of Ballet Theatre Company. Select members of the group are also invited to train weekly alongside BTC’s professional dancers in company class.

Interested dancers are required to attend a minimum of one week of the Junior Corps de Ballet Prep Intensive, running from Aug. 7-11 and Aug. 14-18. The intensive will serve as the audition to join this elite group; during the intensive, dancers will hone ballet and pointe technique and learn select repertoire for upcoming performances.

The mission of BTC’s Junior Corps de Ballet is to provide serious dancers the opportunity to train at a high caliber, experience professional dance at a young age, and, if interested, prepare for a future in dance. Members of the Junior Corps de Ballet learn the importance of discipline and goal setting, leadership skills, working well with others, and professionalism in and out of the performing arts world.

During BTC’s 24th Season, dancers from BTC’s Junior Corps de Ballet were selected to perform in Up Close: Fall, The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Up Close: Spring, and BTC’s annual Ballet Soiree, gaining valuable experience learning repertoire, and rehearsing and performing alongside professional dancers. Additionally, select dancers from the group were invited to join BTC company dancers at a variety of excerpt performances throughout Greater Hartford.

Dancers interested in auditioning for BTC’s Junior Corps de Ballet are encouraged to read full details here. All interested dancers must submit a completed audition registration form by Aug. 1 to be considered.
