The West Hartford neighborhood of Golf Acres gathered Saturday to celebrate the retirement of their beloved mail carrier, Sherry Zitani, marking the end of a remarkable 15-year journey of service, connection, and community.

As Sherry delivered her final route, she stepped out of her mail truck into a heartfelt surprise: a large gathering of neighbors waiting for her. Smiles, applause, flowers, cake and even a few happy tears filled the evening air as residents – along with many of the dogs she came to know so well – welcomed her with gratitude and love.

For 15 years, Sherry has been far more than the person who delivered the mail. She has watched families move in and move out, seen children grow up from babies to young adults. And has become part of the lives of everyone in the neighborhood. Through snowstorms, summer heat, and everything in between, she has been a steady and familiar presence.

Her daily route became something more than just a job – it became a relationship with the community she served. Neighbors describe her as kind, dependable, and always ready with a warm smile or friendly wave. And to her four-legged friends, she always had pockets full of treats for all of them.

Sherry’s retirement leaves big shoes to fill in Golf Acres. While the mail will continue to arrive each day, it won’t quite be the same without the mail carrier who helped build such strong bonds along her route.

She will be truly missed, but her impact on the neighborhood will not be forgotten.
