An innovative functional medical practice focusing on women’s health issues is now accepting patient bookings in anticipation of its opening on Monday, March 20, 2017.  Women’s Holistic Health, LLC, founded by Jessica Wei, MD, will be located at 18 North Main St. in West Hartford Center.

The practice will include a highly experienced Functional Medicine nutritionist, Holly Niles, MS, CNS, LDN, CFSP.

Dr. Wei created Women’s Holistic Health, LLC, a women’s Functional Medicine practice, after becoming more and more aware of the limitations of conventional medicine when addressing women’s health concerns. Although conventional approaches to medical care provide some with relief from their chronic symptoms, many women do not get the support or answers they need to fundamentally shift their health and achieve true wellness,” said Wei.

This increasing awareness and Wei’s own personal experiences with illness led her to study the work of Dr. Mark Hyman, medical director at Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Functional Medicine and founder of the UltraWellness Center. To further train herself, she completed a two-year fellowship in Integrative Medicine with the University of Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine founded by Dr. Andrew Weil.

Wei then went on to complete a mentorship in Functional Medicine and pursue full certification with the Institute for Functional Medicine. Observing firsthand how this approach to care restored health and balance for her, Wei realized that she could offer a new model for health care delivery. This clinical approach allows her the space and time to explore fully the concerns of each woman she sees in the office, as well as provide new insight into the underlying root causes for symptoms.

Understanding the causes for symptoms and illness through listening and functional medicine testing allows Wei to fully address women’s health concerns.

Wei has also engaged Holly Niles, MS, CNS, LDN, CFSP  to further support the Functional Medical approach to treating women’s health concerns. Niles is a trained, highly experienced Functional Medicine nutritionist who worked side-by-side with Dr. Mark Hyman at the UltraWellness Center in Lenox, MA.

The focus of Women’s Holistic Health, LLC is restoring the body’s natural balance through a personalized, partnered approach to addressing women’s health and wellness concerns including:

  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty maintaining a healthy weight
  • Hormonal issues such as menstrual cycle irregularities, fibroids, endometriosis, PMS, PCOS
  • Fertility issues
  • Menopausal issues
  • Insomnia
  • Digestive problems
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

Functional Medicine differs greatly from conventional medicine. According to the Institute for Functional Medicine, “Conventional medicine tends to look at the constellation of symptoms first, which usually results in a disease diagnosis. Often, this diagnosis is associated with a drug or drugs that can be prescribed to treat this constellation of symptoms, and that is the end of the story…. [Conventional medicine] treats all patients that present with similar symptoms the same and completely neglects both the inherent differences among patients as well as the myriad possible causes that a ‘disease’ can have.”

By contrast, the Functional Medicine approach carefully considers the details of each person’s story, and focuses on the more foundational aspects of health that reside in lifestyle factors such as nutrition, sleep, exercise, stress reduction, and healthy relationships.

As an integral part of the functional medicine approach to care, Women’s Holistic Health, LLC offers patients an initial 75-minute consultation with Dr. Wei and a 60-minute consultation with Functional Nutritionist Holly Niles. This is an opportunity to explore more fully a patient’s story and symptoms, as well as provide excellent nutrition support which will be foundational to any path to restoring health and wellness.

In order to provide ample time to meet with its patients outside of the constraints of a conventional practice, Women’s Holistic Health, LLC does not participate as an in-network provider with any insurance plans. This allows Wei and her team to provide the best in-depth and expert care that functional medicine can offer.

While the practice does not accept insurance, it can provide the necessary paperwork for patients to submit to their insurance companies for out-of-network coverage for consultative services and lab testing. Patients are encouraged to contact their insurance company to understand what services may be covered.

Patients may book appointments now via www.jessicaweimd.com or by calling 860-904-9728.
