Ballet Theatre Company Announces Masterclass with Derek Brockington

The School of Ballet Theatre Company will host a masterclass with professional dancer Derek Brockington on March 1 in West Hartford.

Ballet Theatre Company (SBTC) is pleased to announce a masterclass on March 1 with Derek Brockington, a professional dancer with Dance Theatre of Harlem and BTC’s Resident Choreographer.

Join Derek on Friday March 1, from 5:30-7 p.m. in BTC’s Ron and Nancy Compton studio located on 20 Jefferson Ave., West Hartford. The class is open to the public for ages 13 and up. SBTC Dancers enrolled in Ballet IV-Ballet VI are eligible to register. The fee for this class is $35. Originally from Chicago, IL, Derek was raised in Holland, MI, where he started his training at the Dance Asylum and moved to Grand Rapids Ballet School, Blue Lake Fine Arts, and attended Interlochen Arts Academy for high school. Derek performed with Cincinnati Ballet and Grand Rapids Ballet before joining Dance Theatre of Harlem in 2019. Repertoire includes works by Claudia Schreier, Stanton Welch, George Balanchine, Robert Garland, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Nacho Duato, William Forsythe and Darrell Grand Moultrie. He has choreographed for Columbia Ballet Collaborative, Ballet Theatre Company, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Along with DTH’s Alexandra Hutchinson, he coordinates DTH social media.

As part of its 25th Anniversary celebration, Ballet Theatre Company (BTC) is proud to include Derek Brockington as the company’s first ever Resident Choreographer. On March 9 & 10, Derek will present a WORLD PREMIERE, titled, Starburst in BTC’s next performance, Up Close: Spring. Make sure to purchase your tickets: https://dancebtc.org/up-close.
