Barnes & Noble will celebrate the grand opening of a new store at Westfarms, on the Farmington-West Hartford border, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

The new Barnes & Noble at Westfarms will host a grand opening ceremony and book signing on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 10 a.m., celebrating the relocation of the store that closed in May 2026 just down the road at 1599 SE Road in Farmington.

According to a spokesperson, the Westfarms store, located in the former Forever 21 space next to Macy’s on the lower level of Westfarms, is more than 22,000 square feet, and in addition to books will offer an extensive selection of toys, games, magazines, gift items, and more.

Local author David Borges will assist in the ribbon cutting, and will be signing copies of his acclaimed book, UConn Basketball: An Illustrated Timeline.

“We are pleased to move to this excellent new location within the Farmington community at Westfarms,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes and Noble in a statement. “Much as we loved our previous location, open for 33 successful years, there is a silver lining when moving to a much stronger store. Our booksellers are very excited to have such a beautiful new store and look forward to welcoming customers back into their brand-new Barnes & Noble.”

According to a spokesperson, this is the sixth new Barnes & Noble to open in Connecticut in the past three years. Most recently, in September 2025, a new store. opened in Stamford. Nationally, Barnes & Noble has opened 18 new stores in 2026, and plans to open a total of 60 before the end of the year.

The company now has 716 bookstores, after dropping to fewer than 600 stores as recently as 2023.

As part of the grand opening celebration, Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made between July 29 and Sunday Aug. 2 at the Westfarms location. Those who register as new members will be able to immediately earn stamps and rewards.

“Everyone who visits the new Farmington Barnes & Noble during the grand opening will have access to exclusive deals, such as $50 off any NOOK device. Customers can also save 40% on all DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k Ultra HD movies,” the announcement states.

“Everyone is incredibly excited for this next chapter, and they cannot wait to meet the community of Westfarms,” said Store Manager Andrew Cohen, an eight-year veteran with Barnes & Noble.

Westfarms spans the border of West Hartford and Farmington, and the new store is the relocation of the former Farmington location. A Barnes & Noble store is also located in Blue Back Square (60 Isham Road) in West Hartford.
