In a continuing effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer, Taylor Schumann of West Hartford, CT, will host the SecondAnnual ALSF Benefit Concert on Saturday, July 21 from noon-2 p.m. at the outdoor pergola in Blue Back Square in West Hartford.

All proceeds will benefit childhood cancer research through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF).

Schumann, who grew up next door to ALSF founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott in West Hartford, has volunteered for ALSF since her childhood and has secured 19 sponsors this year, totaling almost $2,000 worth of donated raffle items.

“Cancer is a battle that no one should fight alone” said Schumann. “Knowing the hardships these families endure, I have long been committed to the mission of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and raising funds to someday find a cure. It is an honor to work with such a committed and passionate organization.”

Schumann’s goal is to raise $2,000 on event day, which will fund approximately five days of childhood cancer research at pediatric cancer research facilities throughout the United States.

The concert will feature many performers including New York musicians Tony Davis and El Birane, Amsterdam native Hiske, Boston students Lara Murray and Allison Aaron, the Hartford Stage Youth Ensemble, and Hartford’s very own Sea Tea Comedy Theater. In addition, there will be a lemonade stand and a raffle of prizes donated by local businesses.

About Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation:

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement, complete with thousands of supporters across the country carrying on her legacy of hope. To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) charity, has raised more than $150 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 800 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
