Deadlines Approaching in West Hartford for Energy Assistance, Renters’ Rebate Programs

Emergency Energy Assistance

Applications are being accepted until Sept. 15 for the first emergency energy assistance cycle. Applications are available on the Generation Power CT website (formerly known as Operation Fuel) at https://gpct.org/gethelp or by calling 860-243-2345. The next energy cycles for applications are Dec. 1-15, 2026, and March 1-15, 2027.

CRT Energy Assistance can also help if you have trouble paying your home heating bills. For more information, contact them at 860-560-5800 or apply online at https://portal.ct.gov/heatinghelp/applyonline.

Connecticut’s Renters’ Rebate

West Hartford Social Services is accepting applications for Connecticut’s Renters’ Rebate program for eligible residents. The State of Connecticut Renter’s Rebate Program offers rebates up to $900 for married couples or $700 for an individual. The filing period is April 1 through Sept. 30.

Applicants must meet 1 of the 3 following criteria for eligibility:

1) Recipient or spouse must be 65 years of age or older
2) Be over age 50, and the surviving spouse was living with an applicant who was eligible to apply at the time of their passing
3) Be 18 years of age or older and eligible to receive Social Security Disability benefits.

Residents must also meet a one-year state residency requirement.

All applicants must submit proof of all income, rent, and utility payments for the last calendar year. Your total qualifying income (taxable and non-taxable) from the previous calendar year must not exceed:

  • Single individuals: $46,300
  • Married couples: $56,500

Those who do NOT live in West Hartford and would like to apply should contact their local town.
