All West Hartford residents are invited to attend a financial aid night seminar on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. at Conard High School.

“This is an annual event directed primarily at parents of high school seniors and juniors to help them understand how college financial aid works and the college financial aid application process, including review of the major application forms,” said consultant Frank R.A. Resnick, who has been presenting the financial aid night for parents of high schoolers for the past 36 years.

“With the cost of today’s college education – in some cases annually exceeding that of a luxury car – it is important that parents understand the application process and the issues regarding student financial aid,” Resnick said.

“Financing a College Education” will specifically focus on the 2015-16 academic year, but will still provide valuable tools and resources for parents of high school juniors as their children begin the college search process. The program is free and there is no need to register in advance.

The program will include the following topics:

  • Introduction:  Current Issues in Financial Aid
  • Purpose of Financial Aid
  • Determining the Cost of Higher Education
  • Understanding Need Analysis
  • How to Apply for Financial Aid – 2015-2016
  • Explanation of Financial Aid Programs
  • How Financial Aid Award Decisions Are Made
  • Completing the Need Analysis Documents: Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) and CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE
  • Alternative Options to Financing a College Education

The will also be a question and answer period.

The following is a brief biography of Resnick:
