If you’re in 8th-12th grade, or you’re the parent of a high-school student, chances are you’re either thinking about going to college or are already in the process of applying to your list of competitive schools. But do you know ALL you need to know about college testing, courses of study, extracurricular activities, athletics, community service, applications, and the admissions process in general?

Join CollegePrepExpress owner Michael J. Youmans, Ph.D. (aka Dr. Yo) on Sunday, Sept. 28 at Max a Mia, 70 E Main St., Avon, for brunch and an info-packed overview of the entire college application process: “College Admission Secrets for Parents and Teens.”  Food and food for thought!

During the two-hour presentation, you’ll find out about organizing academics and extracurricular activities (including sports) throughout high school; planning your college admissions calendar; understanding the most important admissions criteria; knowing whether to take the SAT, ACT, or both, and when, as well as Subject Tests and APs; reducing test anxiety; planning and making the most of college visits; getting recommendations; packaging outstanding applications and recommendations; and more. Even experienced parents of college-bound teens will learn something new about the latest changes to the SAT, ACT, and CommonApp, plus vital test-taking strategies for all the standardized tests their teens will encounter in high school.

Dr. Youmans, a graduate of Harvard, Oxford, and Boston College School of Education, is an educator with more than 20 years’ experience and has helped many Connecticut students on their way to acceptance by their top-choice colleges.

Tickets for the event are $20 each and available online at CollegePrepExpress.com/secrets-for-parents-and-teens. Price includes the presentation, a folder of take-home materials, breakfast, and 10 percent off the purchase of two entrees at Max a Mia (lunch or dinner, good until 10/15/2014).

Dr. Youmans will also give the same presentation on Saturday, Sept.27, at Max Fish in Glastonbury, CT.
