St. John’s Episcopal Church will hold its third annual community block party on Sunday, Sept. 9 from noon- 3 p.m. following an outdoor Eucharist at 10:30 a.m.

People of all ages are welcome to this free event featuring food trucks, live music, a bounce house, children’s activities, and tours of St. John’s historic building.

“St. John’s is fortunate to be in a vibrant neighborhood on the Hartford/West Hartford line,” said the Reverend Susan Pinkerton, St. John’s rector, “and we look forward each year to connecting with our neighbors and sharing our beautiful facilities at the block party. We welcome everyone, from our immediate neighborhood and beyond, to this fun gathering with food, music and activities for all ages.”

Bring a picnic lunch, or purchase hot dogs, pizza and ice cream on site. Enjoy live music from the Hartford Steel Band; covers and original music with Jeff Verney and Balfalus Khan; and folk, rock and Americana with The Alternate Facts. Guides will offer tours of St. John’s historic church building and stained glass windows.

The block party kicks off St. John’s new program year, including the renowned Music at the Red Door concert series. The series, which has established St. John’s as a destination for those seeking musical refreshment and excellence, features a wide range of guest artists and professional performance groups, and draws on the existing strengths of St. John’s choirs, world-class Austin organ, and welcoming and inspiring space. Concerts are open and accessible to all, with no admission charge, although donations are always welcome. Go to www.reddoormusic.org for information on this year’s concert program.
