For the several months, Hayes-Velhage Post 96 has been the recipient of donations generated from royalties obtained through the sale of food-shopping bags by the Community Bag Programs run by three West Hartford food stores:Big Y at Bishops Corner, and Stop & Shop stores located on Farmington Avenue, and on Newington Road.

Using the proceeds from these programs, together with monies from several other fund raising efforts, Hayes-Velhage Post 96 was able to make significant contributions to the West Hartford Food Bank, the Fisher House Foundation, and Special Olympics Connecticut.

Post Commander Patrick Harrell said, “The keystone of our organization is ‘service.’It is the foundation for the four Pillars of our focus:to serve our nation, our veterans, our community, and our youth. These program contributions to our ‘service’ mission were extended across three of our Four Pillars and are greatly appreciated.”
