Community-Wide ‘Reading of Names’ in West Hartford Will Commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day

The Mandell JCC and Jewish Federation Association of Connecticut will host a community-wide ‘Reading of the Names’ on April 24 in West Hartford for Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The Mandell JCC and the Jewish Federation Association of Connecticut (JFACT) will host a Community-Wide Reading of the Names for Holocaust Remembrance Day on Monday, April 24, 2017. from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. in the Chase Family Gallery at the Mandell JCC, Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT.

The names read are provided by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum for the Days of Remembrance, and are read aloud by volunteers including local personalities, Mandell JCC and JFACT staff and committee members, students from the Greater Hartford area, and others.

The Community-Wide Reading of the Names is presented in part with Yom Hashoah Holocaust Remembrance Day Honoring the Martyred Six Million, or “Yom Hashoah Ve-Hagevurah” which from Hebrew directly translates as the “Day of (remembrance of) the Holocaust and the Heroism.”

The reading of the names serves as a means to honor the victims’ memories and harsh reminder of the horrors of the Holocaust.
