Conard Boys Swimming and Diving Continues Undefeated

West Hartford’s Conard High School boys swimming and diving team improved to 8-0 on Monday night after defeating Farmington High School, 96-78.

The Red Wolves started off strong in the first two events Monday night, with their Medley Relays (Luke Scheinfeldt, Nick Hall, Andy Filotto, Alex Petit, and Kian Abolfath, Zach Goslee, Andrew Phan, Jack Rich) securing first and third place, while Nathan Lowney, Matt Krol, and Ethan Hunt finished first, third, and fourth in the 200 Freestyle to put them up 21-9.

Farmington was able to split the points with Conard in the 200 Individual Medley, however in the 50 Freestyle Conard swimmers Filotto, Phan, and Petit were able to build on their lead by taking first, third, and fourth and giving the Red Wolves a comfortable 40-22 lead at the break for diving.

Conard’s James Auciello was the lone diver on the board, however he treated the crowd to a spectacular performance, putting up a season- and lifetime-best score of 251 points for his six dives.

Farmington was able to answer back after the break by taking first in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Freestyle, but the Red Wolves 200 Freestyle Relays (Scheinfeldt, Lowney, Petit, Filotto, and Rich, Auciello, Krol, Hunt) finished in first and third, pushing the score to 80-41with three events to go.

The River Hawks were able to close the gap in the 100 Backstroke by taking first, second, and fourth – however Hall, Goslee, and Phan were able to put the meet out of reach for Farmington by taking first, second, and fourth in the 100 Breaststroke. Conard wrapped up the meet by closing the final event, the 400 Freestyle Relay, by finishing first and third (Lowney, Krol, Hall, Phan, and Hunt, Rich, Lucas Steadman, Goslee).

In addition to winning the meet, the following qualified for the state tournament:

  • Ethan Hunt- 500 Freestyle
  • Andrew Phan- 100 Breaststroke.

Conard will face Northwest Catholic next week, with the time, date, and location TBD.
