Despite facing a stronger than usual Newington team while shorthanded, Conard boys swimming and diving held off the challenge from the Nor’easters Tuesday evening, winning 95-86.
The Red Wolves Medley Relay team of Keaden Nguyen, Jeff Rosborg, Andy Filotto, and Alex Petit claimed the first place spot, giving Conard an early lead. All four members of the Medley Relay went on to win subsequent events, Nguyen in the 200 Individual Medley, Rosborg in the 100 Breaststroke, Filotto in the 100 Butterfly, and Petit in the 50 and 100 Freestyle.
Additional winners for Conard were James Auciello who won diving with a score of 178.05, and the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Filotto, Nathan Lowney, Petit, and Nick Hall.
The Nor’easters’ two individual wins came from Kuba Latawiec who won a tight race in the 200 Freestyle and cruised to a win in the 500 freestyle. Latawiec also helped the Nor’easters win the 400 Freestyle Relay, serving as the anchor and fastest leg of the team.
Hall (200 and 500 Freestyle) and Auciello (diving) both achieved state cuts during the meet, joining Nguyen (100 Backstroke), Filotto (100 Butterfly), and Petit (100 Backstroke) who qualified for the state tournament last Friday evening at the Bulkeley Relays.
Conard’s next meet is Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Cornerstone, when they face Middletown.
