Although Southington started the first quarter with a quick attack, the Conard girls decisively turned that around and spent the rest of the quarter in Southington’s half of the field. Conard was awarded six corners due to its persistent offensive pressure and ended the quarter leading 2-0, with goals scored by Gigi Smith and Berkeley Hess.
The second quarter saw more balanced play between the teams, with Southington mounting a few sustained offensive pushes and securing a corner, but the resulting shot was left of the goal. The Red Wolves demonstrated some impressive stick work in the quarter, including a well-timed back pass, a spin move to beat Southington’s defense and a long solo run by #15 Catherine Towey. Molly Carlin scored late in the quarter to put Conard up 3-0.

Quarter 3 belonged to the Red Wolves, with Berkeley Hess scoring her second goal a few minutes in. Conard secured four corners during the quarter, using different plays to mix the attack up. Late in the quarter, team defense stymied an attack by Southington, with #5 Kelsey Collard emerging with the ball on her stick.

The Red Wolves kept up offensive pressure in the final quarter, with three more corners awarded and a fifth goal being scored by Gigi Smith (her second of the game). There were some nice feeds on the corners, making the shots on goal easy to get off. The use of flicks was well-timed as well.
Conard’s Co-Captain Sam Kenyon had one of the defensive highlights of the game, clearing a ball behind her goalie, to keep the shut out intact.
