In a game of two unbeatens that never lacked intensity, Conard edged Simsbury 9-8 in a back-and-forth contest defined by timely goals and clutch performances.

Conard set the tone early in the first quarter, controlling possession off the opening faceoff and quickly getting on the board. Behind strong offensive pressure, they built momentum with multiple first-quarter goals from Ashley Gorman, Jacqueline Capone, and Caitlin Walsh. Simsbury responded but trailed after an opening frame that leaned in Conard’s favor.

The second quarter tightened up as both defenses settled in. Conard managed to add another goal, but Simsbury answered with determination, eventually leveling the score before halftime. The equalizer shifted momentum and set up a highly competitive second half.

Simsbury carried that energy into the third quarter, capitalizing on a breakaway opportunity to take a brief lead. However, Conard answered quickly.

Their standout attacker, Gorman (a Louisville commit) – who finished with five goals on the day – sparked the offense with consecutive scores to reclaim control heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter proved decisive. Conard found the net again to extend their lead, and Caroline Cersosimo, a UConn commit, added a crucial goal late to provide breathing room. Simsbury pushed until the final whistle, but Conard’s defense held firm in the closing moments.

Tuesday’s game was a complete team effort, highlighted by offensive firepower, resilience under pressure, and key contributions in critical moments.

With the 9-8 win, Conard remains undefeated and with a 10-0 record continues to establish itself among the top teams, remaining in the conversation with other undefeated programs like Darien, the No. 1 team in Class LL. Conard is currently ranked fourth, behind FCIAC powerhouses Wilton and New Canaan. Despite the loss to Conard, fellow CCC foe Simsbury remains atop Class L.

Conard travels to Newington (4-4-0, Class L) on Thursday, and will host Newtown (7-5-0, Class L) on Saturday afternoon.
