Senior Will MacDonald scored for the Chieftains in a loss to South Windsor Monday night.

With major support from family, friends, and fellow students, the Conard boys hockey team hosted South Windsor at Veterans Memorial Ice Rink in West Hartford Monday night.
Before the game, the Conard seniors were brought out with their families to celebrate their varsity careers. Owen Fernandez (No. 7), Will MacDonald (No. 16), JP Berrettini (No. 29), Eli Wizevich (No. 1), Alex Barnard (No. 6), Connor Montgomery (No. 10), and Jonathan Sorgio (No. 11) were among the seniors honored.
A packed house of over 100 fans were in attendance, and Conard’s rowdy student section – “The Red C” – was in the stands to cheer on the team.
The Chieftains were mostly on the defensive in the first period of game play, with senior goalie Eli Wizevich making numerous goal saving plays. The constant aggressive play by the Bobcats, however, was overwhelming and South Windsor scored two goals.
The Chieftains responded with a goal from the right corner from senior Will MacDonald with 5 minutes left in the period.
MacDonald’s goal unfortunately would be the only point the Chieftains made, as the Bobcats (7-11-0) went on to dominate the next two periods racking up the score to 6-1.
Despite the score, the Conard boys still played through each period and never faltered. With the loss, the Chieftains fall to 2-16-1.
The Chieftains will play their last game of the season when they host Simsbury at Veterans Rink on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 7:20 p.m.
