The Conard boys soccer team hosted RHAM Tuesday afternoon in West Hartford, with the game ending in a scoreless draw.

“I have no regrets.” 

Conard coach Greg Smedburg ended the game against RHAM by stating, “I think it was a really positive result to get our first clean sheet of the season.” 

The weather conditions on Tuesday made for a very windy and partly cloudy game, which made it extremely difficult for teams to shoot accurately. “The wind always affects a game like soccer, but at the end of the day, it’s still no excuse,” said Smedburg. 

Even though in the end the game was tied 0-0, the teams were extremely competitive, and shots were made consistently throughout the game. Major plays were made to drive the ball up and down the field, but neither team was able to successfully capitalize off them.

After a competitive first half, the coaches for Conard and RHAM grouped with their players to address what worked and what didn’t during the first half to make a game plan for the second. Unfortunately, neither team was able to put up enough pressure to score a goal in the second half, keeping the score at 0-0. The windy conditions also made it difficult to score, with neither team being able to play around it to take the lead.

Conard coach Smedburg commented that Conard created “as many chances as we did, someone’s gotta be the guy to put the team on their back and put it in the back of the net.” 

Conard is now 2-1-2 after defeating Maloney 3-1 on Thursday in Meriden. They are scheduled to play Pomperaug on Sunday, Sept. 27 in a tournament, and will host Wethersfield on Tuesday.
