The bill’s intention is to encourage more individuals to seek careers in public safety fields.

A wide-ranging bill that increases job benefits for emergency responders and National Guard members is now the law of the state, with Gov. Ned Lamont announcing he had signed House Bill 5003 Thursday.

The bill passed the House 117-29 and the Senate 28-7 during the 2026 legislative session.
