On Saturday, April 22, 2023, the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, in conjunction with the Police Department, will hold its annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. National Take Back Day serves as a way for our community to safely dispose of unneeded medications that otherwise will not be properly disposed of or could be misused.

Collection activities will take place at the Charter Oak International Academy parking lot (enter from Flatbush Avenue), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is anonymous and free of charge. Volunteers will be on hand to take items from your vehicle.

ACCEPTED: Prescription and over-the-counter dosage medications, i.e., tablets, capsules, vaping products, and liquids. Please protect your identity by removing medications from the pill bottles and placing them in sealed plastic bags.

NOT ACCEPTED: Intravenous solutions, injectable medicines, Epi-pens, and needles are not be accepted.

National Take Back Day provides an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medication for destruction in an environmentally safe manner. These drugs can contaminate our waterways when flushed away and are a potential risk to public health and safety when used illegally.

For more information, contact the Health District at 860-561-7900 or the West Hartford Police Department at 860-570-8845.
