West Hartford police deployed all available resources after learning a child may have left campus unsupervised, following standard procedure for reports of a missing child.
The student was reunited with his family at approximately 5 p.m..
Principal Kristi Laverty addressed the Duffy community Tuesday night.
“Student safety is our top priority. As with any event, we always perform an after-action review to identify what happened, evaluate our procedures, and determine what additional steps, if any, are needed,” said Laverty.
West Hartford Police Captain Aaron Vafiades provided tips when a child is missing:
- Contact Police immediately. Kids can cover a lot of ground with a time delay.
- If the child is missing from their house, check the house, then check the house again thoroughly.
- Educate your child about trusted adults to seek assistance from.
- Have a plan in place with your child if they miss the bus, get on the wrong bus etc.
- Have an up to date photo available.
