Organizers are reaching out to all friends of Elmwood to help ‘Elmwood Bloom Again’ in 2021.

These are exciting times all around the Elmwood section of West Hartford. Lots of new projects and companies are testing the waters and finding Elmwood a wonderful gem and stimulating place to live, work, and have a business!

For the past several years, about this time, lifelong resident and businessman Charlie Hilborn, representing the Elmwood Business Association (EBA) , has been out and about in an effort to get merchant support for planters along New Britain Avenue. The result was that during the summer and into the fall season, a trip down the Avenue in the Elmwood section of West Hartford was a lot more cheerful and vibrant with many floral planters.

There were 67 planters in 2019 and 51 last year despite the pandemic. In fact, in 2020 there were 46 “Neighbors and Friends of Elmwood” who joined with the EBA, and 41 local businesses with enough donations to purchase six of the 51 planters with contributions of between $20 and $215.

The Knox Inc. Green Crew delivered and maintained the planters and Charlie’s on-going vision to help beautify Elmwood became reality once again in spite of everything happening in 2020. The display of beautiful flowers brought joy and smiles to the neighborhood at a time when it was much needed.

Today, we are reaching out to help make 2021 the best planter year ever! The “Elmwood Blooms Again” program is on and Charlie will be contacting local merchants by phone, email, and sociall- distanced visits for their support over the next few weeks. Assistance from the Friends of Elmwood is again requested.

“I understand that these are still challenging times and am so proud and humbled by the opportunity to work on this project again,” Charlie said. “We are hoping those who can, will consider participating as every single donation will help contribute to the purchase of another planter. Thank you for your generosity to help bring more splendor to Elmwood and please continue to stay healthy neighbors!”

Knox is also assisting by offering an incentive to purchase or contribute earlier by keeping the price the same as last year for planters purchased before April 28.

If you live in Elmwood or you are a Friend of Elmwood and are able to, please join the Elmwood businesses to help beautify our neighborhood. You can mail checks, (made out to Knox Inc.)  directly to Charlie Hilborn at 65 Park Place Circle, West Hartford, CT  06110, by April 28, 2021. These planters will be distributed along the Avenue to add to those the businesses are purchasing.

For more information please contact Charlie Hilborn at 860-559-8722 or email questions/ideas to [email protected].
