The School of Ballet Theatre Company (SBTC),  the official school of Ballet Theatre Company (BTC), will kick off its 2022-2023 Academic School year on Sept. 7. SBTC offers classes in ballet, pointe, variation, jazz and contemporary for students ages three to adult, from beginner to advanced levels. Its carefully-constructed curriculum emphasizes strong technique, proper alignment, musicality, and expression. Through a faculty of distinguished professionals, its ballet instructors incorporate the best of the French, Italian, and Russian training methods in a nurturing and supportive classroom environment that fosters the development of young artists.

SBTC students share a facility with the BTC’s resident professional company, enriching each student’s experience by allowing them to observe those dancers in classes, rehearsals and performances. Students are also offered opportunities to perform with the professional company in productions such as this season’s performances of The Nutcracker and Cinderella to be performed at The Bushnell.

Whether SBTC’s students dance for fun and exercise, or because they dream of becoming a professional dancer,  SBTC’s curriculum prepares students physically and mentally to embrace their next adventure, cultivating discipline, friendships that will last a lifetime, and an appreciation for the art form.

SBTC provides a comprehensive dance education through four distinctive training divisions: The Children’s Division, The Student Division, The Adult Division, and The Junior Corps de Ballet. The Children’s Division offers classes for children ages 3-7 that provide a sound technical foundation while fostering a love for movement. SBTC’s Student Division offers classes for children 7-18 that include a strong classical ballet foundation coupled with opportunities to enjoy jazz, and contemporary dance styles.

SBTC’s Adult Division offers classes in ballet and jazz dance. Whether you are a beginner or returning dancer, SBTC’s adult classes are for everyone and taught in a welcoming environment. Adult classes are designed to promote an understanding of the technique and artistry of movement, while developing a strong and flexible body. SBTC’s distinguished faculty creates material that is catered towards the experience level of the dancers in each class, and offers modifications or different versions of material when dancers of mixed levels are present, so that everyone can fully participate and enjoy the benefits of dance.

SBTC’s Junior Corps de Ballet is to provide serious dancers the opportunity to train at a high caliber, experience professional dance at a young age, and, if interested, prepare for a future in dance. The Junior Corps de Ballet dancers train weekly with BTC’s resident professional company, rehearse a variety of dance repertoire and are offered several performance opportunities throughout BTC’s Season. BTC is pleased to announce that eight dancers and six apprentices were accepted into BTC’s 2022-2023 Junior Corps de Ballet.

SBTC is pleased to continue its partnership with Beam and Barre as its official dancewear provider for its dress code requirements. Beam & Barre has been Connecticut’s finest dance wear provider for over 45 years and specializes in expert pointe shoe fittings. Beam & Barre has an impressive range of over 80 styles of pointe shoes to fit every dancer’s needs and its fitters, who are dancers and teachers, have a combined 20 years of fitting experience between them assuring customers the right fit.
