West Hartford Leisure Services hosted a series of Family Fun Nights at the local outdoor pools throughout the month of August.

West Hartford’s “Family Fun Night” series at the local outdoor pools concluded this past Thursday at Eisenhower Park. Fernridge, Kennedy, and Beachland have already hosted the free and fun evenings earlier in the month. With over 100 attendees, the family-oriented events have proven to be a massive hit.
As the West Hartford school year approaches and as the outdoor pool season prepares for its close on Aug. 20, the festivities provided one last evening of summer fun for the whole family.
Families and residents of all ages enjoyed games, basketball, corn hole, and delicious popsicles on the pool deck. Although the skies were cloudy and the swimmers were met with slightly chillier-than-average summer temperatures, it did not discourage guests from enjoying the celebrations.
The night was also complete with hula hooping, limbo, and cannonball contests led by lifeguards. Many guests sported colorful lei’s and the activities were accompanied by upbeat and lively music.
Nathaniel Poirier, director of Outdoors Pools and Cornerstone Aquatics manager spoke to the value of the event. “I think it’s important mostly for the kids and families. A lot of the time we have families just coming to the pools to swim but we don’t have any interactive things for the kids to feel like they’re being engaged with and having fun. So these give us the opportunity to show that yes, we are very strict with rules and safety, but we also want you to be able to understand that you can have fun and enjoy yourself,” Poirier said.
The Family Fun Night proved to be a spectacular finale for summer festivities as West Hartford transitions into the 2023-2024 school year.
