The “Arts in The Center” is a long-standing series of musical performances at First Church, West Hartford at 12 South Main Street. The acts vary greatly, and performances are offered to the public from the fall to the spring. To kick off the 2022-23 season, the organizers intentionally focused on the kids.

“We invited the Lollipop Opera here to help kids and families appreciate opera as a fascinating, story-telling musical performance art,” explained the Director of Worship Arts Jim Boratko. The Lollipop Opera group has a tagline stating: “A Taste of Opera for Young Listeners.”

Lollipop Opera performs operas for children throughout New England. Their interactive productions are educational and fun – a perfect introduction to the world of opera and live theater. Lollipop Opera makes opera accessible to children of all ages using familiar stories, opera arias, and fun, creative lyrics.

The “MAD LIB-retto!” is a super interactive show where the children contribute to the creative lyrics by providing words, Mad-Lib style, to complete the libretto of the opera which is then performed live. The kids get a huge kick out of being involved in this way and it makes for a very fun evening for the whole family.

Please join us pizza dinner at 5:30 p.m. if you can. Curtain time is at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. The event is free, but guests may make a voluntary offering. Dinner and show take place in the First Church West Hartford Auditorium, which is accessible from the rear parking lot at 12 South Main Street, West Hartford.
