The Hall High School girls varsity soccer team defeated unbeaten Farmington 2-1 on Friday, Oct. 4, a statement win that moves the Titans to 9-1-1 on the season and into fifth place in the State LL Rankings and first in the CCC.

After a heartbreaking, last-minute 2-1 loss to Glastonbury (4-2-4) on Monday, Hall regrouped on Friday with a stellar second-half offensive, defensive, and midfield effort.

At just 8:50 into the match, Farmington scored on a through ball, and Hall went into halftime down 0-1. But a different Hall girls soccer team came out for the final 40 minutes. Senior co-captain goalkeeper Mabel Cook made four saves in the first 13 minutes of the second half, and junior co-captain, defender Sienna Calabro, made the most of a free kick from the 30-yard line, blasting a laser shot just under the crossbar and over the outstretched hand of the Farmington keeper to even the match at 1-1 just 12 minutes into the second half.

Calabro was part of Hall’s next goal, too, just five minutes later, when she sent a free kick into a scrum of Hall strikers at the 10-yard line. With a perfect flick pass assist from sophomore teammate Alex Ackerman, junior co-captain midfielder Leah Berey elevated above the Farmington keeper to head the ball perfectly into the back of the net for a 2-1 Hall advantage.

Hall spent the next 23 minutes equaling Farmington’s energy and playing tough defense. With just two seconds remaining in the match, Cook came off her line to gather a loose ball and smother it as a Farmington attacker made contact.

Hall next plays Southington (3-7-0) on Monday before finishing the regular season with Simsbury, Avon, Northwest Catholic, and Conard.
