The Kingswood Oxford campus will be hopping this weekend, with two popular events that both support a beloved KO cause – Team Tobati, KO’s signature service-learning program in Tobati, Paraguay.

Friday night will be filled with hockey and music. The 16th annual Ryan Gordon ’05 Hockey Night – named for the late Ryan Gordon, a beloved Boys’ Hockey team manager – will be the last one ever in Brayton Rink, since the facility will be closed for renovations in late summer 2016 as part of Kingswood Oxford’s 2020 Vision, a five-year campus improvement plan. Brayton Rink will be transformed into a state-of-the-art field house and fitness center.

The ice hockey games begin at 5 p.m., when Girls’ Varsity faces off against Rye Country Day, followed by the Boys’ game against Rye at 7 p.m. Before and after, there will be ice games, open skates, refreshments, and lots of reunions. Admission is $5, or free with the purchase of a $20 Hockey Night t-shirt (soon to be a collector’s item).

Can’t make it in person? Both games will be live-streamed; watch the Girls’ game here and the Boys’ game here.

Meanwhile, in Roberts Theater, a cappella singers from schools throughout New England will compete in the 8th annual Wyvern Invitational A Cappella Festival which for the first time is being held on two nights.

Tickets are still available for the Friday night show, which begins at 7 p.m. Click here for tickets. The Saturday night show is sold out, but will be livestreamed here.

Over the past 15 years, more than $75,000 has been raised from WIAF and Hockey Night for Team Tobati, through which 100 KO students and teachers each year spend their March break helping to build schools and other needed facilities in Tobati, Paraguay.

The preeminent independent day school in the Greater Hartford region, Kingswood Oxford School is located at 170 Kingswood Rd. in West Hartford, just steps from Blue Back Square and West Hartford Center. The 507 students come from 62 towns in CT and western MA, as well as China and South Korea.

Applications are still being accepted for September 2016, although they must be complete by Feb. 1 to be eligible for merit scholarships. Questions? Contact the Admissions Office at 860-727-5000 or [email protected].
