The Monastery Gallery of Art and JustFaith Ministry at Holy Family Retreat Center will host a virtual reception for the gallery’s current exhibition, “Prison Arts!” on Sunday, Feb. 6, from 4-5 p.m.

The exhibition features works from the Community Partners in Action Prison Arts Program Permanent Collection. Jeffrey Greene, curator of the collection, will talk about the importance of the arts and artmaking in prison and offer insights into some of the artwork on display in the gallery.

Greene hopes to draw a window into the world of the prison – into lives lived surrounded by cinder block walls – by highlighting the work being done to transcend those walls.

The virtual reception is being offered online via the Zoom platform. Registration is via this link.

Reception attendees and members of the public are invited to drop off donations of art supplies at Holy Family in support of the Prison Arts Program. Donation boxes are located at the front desk and outside the main chapel. A list of needed items is available here. The Monastery Gallery of Art at Holy Family Retreat Center is located at 303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford.

The Prison Arts! exhibit will run through Feb. 28 and may be viewed either in person or virtually on the Monastery Gallery website.
