The joke is on West Hartford! Or, at least it will be on Saturday evening, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. That’s when the doors open for the first in a series of five raucous nights of laughter that make up the 2022 WEHA-HA Comedy Series.

The laughs will begin with the comedy of the hilariously irreverent Angel Rentas, who began his stand-up comedy career as a nurse practitioner. Which may not seem to make sense … until one takes into account the many cardiac patients with whom he shared his humor, proving that laughter is indeed the best medicine. Rentas, whose comedy is based on his experiences in a multicultural Latino family, as well as his observations about every day life, has appeared on stage at the Boston Comedy Festival, North Carolina Comedy Festival, Coors Light Comedy Competition, Connecticut Funniest Comic, Latino Kings of Comedy.

Given the events of the past two years, excitement for the return of comedy to West Hartford is not only growing … it’s exploding.

“We had to shelve the comedy evening last year — and the year before that, too — thanks to something known far and wide as ‘The Pandemic,’” notes Tom Hickey, president and CEO of 20/20Media, who conceived WEHA-HA a few years back and has been staging it ever since. Now, he adds, “We’re psyched to bring back this awesome event because I think we can all agree that it’s time to lighten the mood with some laughs.”

At the same time, he notes, “every precaution is being taken to keep the evening safe and healthy for all our audience members. We’re following all the guidelines and keeping an eye on COVID trends.”

Produced by 20/20Media and hosted by local comedian Paul Gregory, the WE-HA HA Comedy Series is sponsored by Physical Therapy Specialists located in Granby and West Hartford; and supported by a slew of local businesses. A portion of the proceeds from the WEHA-HA Comedy Series will benefit the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce and Future Leaders of West Hartford.

All five comedy evenings will be held at the Mandell JCC, located at 335 Bloomfield Ave. in West Hartford, and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Coming up on May 7, Ray Harrington will bring his hilarious comedy to the WEHA-HA stage. Additional comedy nights will be held on July 14, Sept. 17, and Oct. 22. Performers will soon be announced.
