Dear Editor,

Since being elected to the state senate in 2010, Senator Beth Bye has been a tremendous asset to not only her own constituents, but to the thousands of residents across Connecticut with developmental disabilities. She co-founded (with Rep. John Hampton and Rep. Jay Case) the Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities Caucus, the first of its kind in the nation, which has organized and given voice to the many concerns individuals with disabilities face in Connecticut, especially under the difficult economic pressures we live in today.

Beth truly cares about the people in her district, listens to their issues and takes action. She has brought jobs to her district through the Small Business Express program, and has helped local nonprofits grow. I have learned a great deal from her about the importance of listening to people.

Senator Bye’s opponent has been running a robo-call push poll, falsely skewed to influence the uninformed voter against her. I received that call. It’s bad enough that we have to put up with a complete loss of civility in presidential, congressional and gubernatorial campaigns. Beth Bye has run clean and civil campaigns rooted in her personal integrity, and has helped enact laws that benefit some of our most vulnerable citizens. She deserves and has my vote on November 8.
