Dear Editor:
I want to take a moment to share my support of Anastasia Yopp, running for state representative in Connecticut’s 20th district. My first encounters with Yopp were at Newington Board of Education meetings. It was at the BOE meetings that I learned Yopp shares the same vision for our public schools as I do. She supports parental choice as opposed to government schools taking the reins on our children. Yopp believes that ALL LIVES MATTER and critical race theory (CRT) has no place in the classroom. CRT has been sneakily named “culturally responsive teaching,” but you may see it called something else depending on which district you are in.
Yopp’s stance on gender identity is clear – stop hyper sexualizing our children in the classrooms. In 2021, there was a national state of emergency declared on children and adolescent mental health. Gender dysphoria is a mental health concern that should not be taken lightly and the classroom is not equipped, nor should it be, to deal with such a topic. It is not the job of the educational system to lead discussions of who is attracted to whom and why. The educational system is there to teach reading, writing and mathematics.
Anastasia Yopp won’t stop fighting for our children and for that I am grateful. I urge residents of Newington and West Hartford’s 20th district to vote for Yopp on November 8th.
