To the Editor:

I am writing today to express my unequivocal support for Ethan Goldman, candidate for the West Hartford Board of Education. I feel Ethan is ideally suited to serve our community in this capacity.

I met Ethan 25 years ago when my oldest son started playing soccer in the West Hartford Youth Soccer League. Serving as both a coach and the volunteer treasurer of the League for over 15 years, Ethan clearly demonstrated his commitment to his family and the West Hartford community. As if being the volunteer treasurer for the West Hartford Soccer League wasn’t enough, I later learned Ethan also volunteers on the board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and served as the treasurer for that organization as well.

During my 10+ years on the Soccer Board of Directors serving alongside Ethan, I saw firsthand his willingness to thoughtfully listen and discuss the issues. I both co-coached with him and some seasons against teams he coached, and never saw Ethan raise his voice or disrespect anyone, but always knew his team were going to be both well prepared and respectful on the playing field.

In addition to being a volunteer treasurer for the two organizations, Ethan is a certified public accountant. I feel this makes Ethan perfectly suited for reviewing and helping to maintain fiscal responsibility. Then combine this with Ethan being the proud father of four now-adult kids, he clearly has the passion to see the kids in our community exceed.

This town needs more folks like Ethan, fiscally responsible, but also caring and compassionate when it comes to working towards the best possible learning environment for our kids. Ethan has both my wife and my votes for the West Hartford Board of Education, and I hope he has yours as well.<

Sincerely,

Bruce G Whitney
30-year West Hartford resident
