To the Editor:

West Hartford is showing what happens when a community and its leaders pull together. This week, our town became a hero for our kids. Town Engineer Greg Sommer and our local leaders made a brave stand. They chose the safety of our students over the speed of cars on Webster Hill Boulevard.

This is what harmony looks like. Since last fall, the town and the PTO worked as a team. The Engineering Division and the Police Department even went to the school to see the traffic for themselves. We are glad they decided to keep our bike lanes. It shows that our leaders listen when parents speak up.

The new raised crosswalk at Carleton Road is a huge win. We look forward to seeing it built during Spring Break in April. The town is also adding posts to keep the east bike lane clear. These choices prove that West Hartford is a team that protects its families.

Now, the police are helping us finish the job. They will be at the school during drop-off and pick-up to keep things safe. Their presence is a promise of a safer future for every child.

We are proud to live in a town that puts its kids first. Let’s keep working together to make every street a safe path for our families.

Respectfully,

Richard D. McSorley III
West Hartford
