The Mandell Jewish Community Center is excited to announce its 2018 summer theater camp production of Mary Poppins, Jr., which will be performed on the Herbert and Evelyn Gilman Theater stage at the Mandell JCC in West Hartford on both Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 19 at 7 p.m.
Everyone’s favorite practically-perfect nanny takes center stage in this Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious summer theater camp adventure based on the award-winning Broadway musical and classic Walt Disney film. The production, involving 30 campers in grades 3 through 8, is led by Artistic and Musical Director Emily Weiser and Director and Choreographer Meg Buckner, and will include favorite songs such as “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Feed the Birds” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
In just three-and-a-half weeks, the campers have designed stage sets, learned their lines as well as the singing and dance choreography.
“It’s always incredible to see the talent these theater students have at their age,” says Weiser. “Beyond the ‘production,’ theater is really something special that teaches teamwork and how to collaborate. This group works so well together. Their performance promises to be nothing short of extraordinary and entertaining.”
An enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, and lively dance numbers, Mary Poppins Jr. explores what makes a family. “Mary Poppins’ magic is about getting people to notice and acknowledge the beauty and family that is all around them. But it also goes beyond family and extends to the community and the people who are there to help us,” says Camp Director Jane Pasternak.
The show’s program, which lists all of the cast and crew members, can be found as a PDF below.
