Nordstrom, one of the anchor stores at Westfarms, which spans the town lines of West Hartford and Farmington, is not on the list of 16 stores that the retailer plans to shutter permanently, a spokesperson for the retailer said Thursday afternoon.
“It is not included in the 16 stores we announced earlier this week,” Emily Sterken, senior public affairs manager for Nordstrom, told We-Ha.com in an email when asked about the status of the Westfarms store.
A spokesperson for Westfarms had earlier in the day directed all questions about the retailer directly to Nordstrom.
A story written by the Associated Press and published in the Hartford Courant Thursday morning, with the headline “Report: Nordstrom at Westfarms to close permanently,” cited a source in a Women’s Wear Daily report, that indicated the Westfarms store was on the list of those to be closed. The Women’s Wear Daily story later removed the information about Westfarms.
The Westfarms Nordstrom store, like all of the retailers stores, has been closed to shoppers since March 17, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nordstrom did issue a press release Tuesday indicating its plans to “increase flexibility and agility in serving customers and position the business for the long-term,” as the retailer prepares to reopen in accordance with guidelines in the communities where its stores are located. A list of measures that will be followed in order to ensure health and safety protocols are met was included in the press release.
That release also states: “To meet accelerating changes in customer expectations, the Company is taking actions to strengthen its business for the long-term. Based on the needs of each market, the Company plans to permanently close 16 full-line stores. The Company will incur non-cash impairment charges associated with these closures.”
No information about the specific stores to be closed has been officially indicated. Nordstrom has indicated further. updates will be provided during its first quarter earnings call.
