The West Hartford Senior Citizens Advisory Commission has announced they will be hosting a panel presentation and interactive discussion focused on issues and trends related to age-appropriate housing options for older adults.
The rapid expansion of the 60-year-old-plus demographic sector along with greater longevity of the baby boomer generation presents ongoing challenges regarding how to plan for an enjoyable experience in the third quadrant of the life continuum.
As West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor recently remarked on March 18 in the “State of the Town” address, the number one challenge for communities across the nation is housing availability and affordability. The mayor cited that a contributing factor is that “empty-nest boomers” are reported to own 30% of large homes in the U.S. and have little incentive to sell and nowhere to go. While the State of Connecticut and West Hartford have made investments in increasing the diversity of housing types, challenges continue for older adult homeowners and renters regarding appropriate housing solutions.
The SCAC is pleased to bring together a panel with experience in working on senior living solutions including current West Hartford demographics:
Presenting will be: Kristen Gorski, Economic Development Coordinator, Town of West Hartford; Heather Zoeller, Advisory Director, OnePoint Partners; and Mark Garilli, CEO, West Hartford Fellowship Housing.
Please join us on Tuesday April 16, 2024 to learn more about this important topic and begin a discussion of older adult housing considerations going forward.
This event is free of charge and will b held at the West Hartford Senior Center – Bishops Corner Branch, on Tuesday, April 16, from 10-11:30 a.m. Any questions, please email [email protected].
