The annual ‘Bikes and Lights’ returned for the fifth year on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025 – this year serving as a fundraiser for iCan Bike.

Families in a neighborhood near Duffy Elementary School in West Hartford enjoyed the fifth annual “Bikes and Lights” – which this year also served as a fundraiser for iCan Bike, a national program that in West Hartford is run by the Miracle League of Connecticut and Department of Leisure Services.

At West Hartford’s week-long iCan Bike program held each summer, roughly 40 campers ages 8 and up with special needs learn to independently ride a two-wheeled bicycle. The program has a very high success rate.

Bikes and Lights this year raised $1,142 that will be donated to the iCan Bike program.

Kids of all ages lit up their bicycles, tricycles, and even themselves with battery-operated lights and glow sticks, and enjoyed the evening block party attended by more than 100 people.

“It would be wonderful if Bikes and Lights spread to other neighborhoods, inspiring people to ride, brighten their streets, and raise funds for iCanBike or an organization that matters to them,” said West Hartford resident Eileen MacDonnell, who was an organizer of the event.
