Playhouse Theatre Academy Hosting New Online Classes

Playhouse Theatre Academy, a division of West Hartford’s Playhouse on Park, has a new lineup of online classes for kids and teens as well as a virtual theatre club.

Playhouse Theatre Academy is offering classes via Zoom for kids and teens!

Playhouse Theatre Academy is dedicated to offering professional theatre programs for emerging artists of all ages and abilities. All students will learn from expert faculty who will share their exceptional abilities and love of theatre. Whether your goal is to be a professional actor or to explore your imagination and creativity in a new way, Playhouse Theatre Academy is a home for quality theatre instruction.

Advanced Young Actors (ages 7-12):

Mondays/Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Class runs from NOW through June 10. Students will get the opportunity to create a script, rehearse, and perform an original one act piece, using the fundamentals of acting. The theme is Superheroes! This session will culminate in an end of year performance. Pricing: $135 for the session. First class is free! A Zoom link will be sent out upon registration.

Acting for Teens (ages 13-18):

Fridays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Class runs from May 15 through June 26. This class is for teens who are interested in improving their acting and performance technique. Working with scenes, monologues, and improvisation, teens will build confidence in front of an audience and as an ensemble. Pricing: $235 for the session. First class is free! A Zoom link will be sent out upon registration.

Playhouse Theatre Academy is also offering two weeks worth of Zoom-based theatre classes for kids and teens! These classes are free ($20 donation suggested), and participants can attend as few or as many as they like! The following classes are being offered.

Playdates (Ages 5-8):

Tuesdays and Thursdays 3-4 p.m. (starting May 19 for two weeks). Have a play date with us! Develop theatre and literacy skills with a different book each week. Bring the story to life with crafts and movement activities! Instructors are Tori Mooney and Hillary Ekwall.

Booked It! (Ages 9-12):

Fridays 3-4 p.m. (starting May 22 for two weeks). This video series helps develop theatre skills with activities based on “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Featuring a special guest – an actor from the national tour! Instructor is Thomas Beebe.

Playwriting (Ages 12-15):

Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30-5:30 p.m. (starting May 19 for two weeks with a Friday session in Week 2). Create an original short play, complete with your own characters, dialogue, plot, and more! Share your masterpiece on the final day. Drop in for a class or two, or take all five! Instructors are Kirsten Easton-Hazaa and Elizabeth Simmons.
