New York City Ballet Principal Dancer and Soloist Daniel Ulbricht will join Ballet Hartford as an adjunct instructor for the troop’s pre-professional Summer Intensive program.

Ulbricht began his training at the age of 11 with the Judith Lee Johnson Studio of Dance, studying with Lenny Holmes.  He was also a student of Javier Dubraq at Les Jeunes Danseurs and Jean Pierre Bonnefoux and Patricia McBride at the Chatauqua Summer Dance Program before being invited to attend the School of American Dance. Since 2000 he has danced with the New York City Ballet, and achieved the rank of soloist and principal dancer in May 2007.

Ballet Hartford’s Summer Intensive is scheduled to be held from June 28 to July 2, 2021 at the EcoSpace on 224 Farmington Ave. in Hartford. Each day will offer physical and artistic challenges to the dancers selected for the six-day program.

Each participant will be stretched to improve their technique by supportive and encouraging local and guest instructors. Ballet and pointe technique, classical variations, modern repertoire and contemporary classes will be offered. Classes will take place each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and are open to students ages 12 and up.

Registration is limited for the Summer Intensive. There will be two in-person audition dates for interested participants.  Dancers will be required to fill out a brief registration form and questionnaire and participate in a ballet/pointe class.

Auditions will be held on Feb. 21 in Monroe, CT (3-4:30 p.m.) and Feb. 27 in Hartford, CT (2-3:30 p.m.). Female applicants must have a minimum of three consecutive years of ballet training and one year of pointe to audition. Male applicants must have a minimum of two years of training. A $20 audition fee will be required upon arrival at the audition.

Dancers unable to attend an in-person audition can request to audition virtually. For more information email Leyna Doran at [email protected].

Ballet Hartford’s Young Dancer Camp registration is also now open.

Each one-week camp will provide dance instruction in ballet and creative movement for beginning dance students.  The classes will take place in the school’s newly-expanded studio at 97 South St. in West Hartford.

Students ages 2-6 are encouraged to attend. Cost per participant is $200 and Ballet Hartford’s faculty will provide instruction. All participants who complete the program will participate in a final performance for family and friends.

More information can be found by emailing Hannah Bush at [email protected].
